Reasons Goldendoodles Make Great Pets
Goldendoodles quickly won the hearts of Americans and Australians after being introduced in the early 1990s. In fact, Goldendoodle puppies are in such high demand, interested parties are often put on a long waiting list. This should come as no surprise since Goldendoodles are a cross between two of the most popular dog breeds of all time: the Poodle and the Golden Retriever.
1. Goldendoodles Are Exceptionally Friendly
Golden Retrievers are well-known for their amiable demeanor and Goldendoodles inherit this highly desirable trait. Affectionate and friendly from the time they are puppies, this is the perfect breed to bring into a family with kids.
2. Goldendoodles Are Hypoallergenic
Poodles are well-known for being non-shedding hypoallergenic dogs and Goldendoodles tend to inherit this trait from their Poodle parent. It should be noted, however, that there is slight variation in this trait. Some Goldendoogles don’t shed at all while others shed a only a small amount. If you or a family member is extremely sensitive to hair or dander, you may want to try finding F1B Goldendoodle puppies. These are first generation Goldendoogles that are crossed with a full bred Poodle. F1B Goldendoodles are considered to be the most hypoallergenic of all the Goldendoodles because they tend to produce little to no dander.
3. Goldendoogles Get Along Well With Other Animals
If you have other dogs or cats in the household, a Goldendoodle is a good selection since they usually get along well with other household pets. This is especially true if you start with Goldendoodle puppies.
4. Goldendoodles Have Magnetic Personalities
Goldendoodles often receive more compliments than any other dog at the park! By their friendly appearance, and even friendlier disposition, they seem to invite people to stop and give a friendly pet and strike up a friendly conversation. This makes them the perfect pet for a shy person who has trouble meeting new people.
5. Goldendoodles Are Healthier Than Either Parent Breed
Goldendoodles exhibit something called “hybrid vigor.” This biological term is used to describe the phenomenon where the first generation of the cross between two unrelated breeds have more vigor, i.e. better health and longevity, than either of the parent breeds. This hybrid vigor decreases with each successive generation which is one of the reasons Goldendoodle breeders usually only produce F1 Goldendoogle puppies, i.e. first generation crosses between Poodles and Golden Retrievers and don’t breed Goldendoogles with other Goldendoogles. If you are looking for a dog with exceptionally good health, a Goldendoogle is a good choice.
6. Goldendoodles Are Highly Intelligent
Poodles are known as being an exceptionally smart dog breed and Goldendoodles inherit this trait. This makes Goldendoodle puppies among the easiest pups to train. Goldendoodles can learn complicated tricks quickly and easily providing many hours of entertainment and fun.
